I hold a strong passion for studying international affairs, particularly through the lenses of migratory studies and human rights studies. That is why I wanted to write about the plight of Haitian people in the Dominican Republic. The paper is a multidisciplinary effort that tracks anti-Haitian prejudice in the Dominican Republic across multiple periods. I chose to use a multi-pronged approach because I believed that it would be the most compelling way to convey the pervasiveness of racism in the Dominican Republic. Writing this paper was an extensive journey. Over the several months in which I researched, wrote, and edited this paper, I grew immensely as a writer. This experience also allowed me to discover more about myself as a thinker, helping to develop a unique voice I am proud to call my own. In school, I greatly enjoy subjects such as English and History, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of our student publication. Outside of school, I enjoy learning new languages, reading classic texts, and running Youth Global, a forum that invites students from around the world to submit their commentaries and perspectives on contemporary global issues. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in international relations to uplift marginalized populations like the Haitians using the power of writing and advocacy.
