After Submission
What Happens Next?
Thank you for submitting your work to The Schola. All submissions are reviewed within a 2–3 week period. Manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening for compliance and scholarly suitability. Selected manuscripts proceed to external blind review. All authors will be notified of the editorial decision by email.
Editorial Outcomes
The following outcomes are possible. All editorial decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
- Desk Rejection: Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's formal requirements or scholarly threshold.
- Rejection Following Review: Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's scholarly standards following editorial review.
- Acceptance with Revisions: The manuscript is accepted for publication, subject to specified revisions and full compliance with the House Style Guide.
The Schola receives submissions from students engaged in rigorous scholarly work. Whatever the outcome, that effort carries value.
Understanding the Decision
If your manuscript is not selected for publication, it reflects the outcome of a competitive editorial process. Selection is influenced by a range of editorial considerations, including a manuscript's contribution, its fit with the journal's scope, and the limited number of papers that can be published in each issue.
Feedback and Communication Policy
Due to the volume of submissions, individualized feedback is not provided for manuscripts that are not selected for publication. The editorial office is unable to respond to inquiries regarding specific submissions, editorial decisions, or post-decision correspondence. The editorial office does not share submission statuses, decisions, or any related correspondence with third parties, including educators, advisors, or institutional representatives. All editorial communication is directed exclusively to the submitting author.
Editorial Assessment Reports
The Veritaum Editorial Report is a formal scholarly assessment prepared for authors whose manuscripts were not selected for publication. For authors seeking a deeper understanding of a manuscript's strengths and weaknesses, the report offers a level of independent, structured feedback rarely available at the high school level. Each report addresses the manuscript’s central argument, analytical approach, and overall scholarly condition—evaluated against the same standards that govern publication in The Schola.
Publication
Each issue of the journal is released in the first week of its publication month—March, June, September, and December—and is available as a single-issue edition. Authors receive digital copies of their published essays to facilitate scholarly sharing and verify publication, though works are not assigned a DOI. The official author’s copy issued by the journal features distinct front and back covers to deter tampering.
