Ever since my earliest memories, I have always loved Chicago. Whenever my parents drove me down the highway to visit cousins or family friends, the view would always leave me utterly mesmerized. It was only as I got older that I started to recognize the complexity of Chicago’s economy and the historical factors contributing to its decline. After my sophomore year of high school, with the support of my parents and some dedicated teachers, I delved into the study of Chicago’s exclusionary mechanisms in the 20th century with keen interest. The efforts of Mayor Harold Washington to assist minorities and reestablish fiscal responsibility have left a profound impression on me. By fighting corruption and diverting from the entrenched ideology, Washington piloted the only successful reform administration in the history of the Windy City. I began thinking about Chicago’s current economic challenges and became engrossed in revealing Washington’s beneficial policies to the world. After a year of drafting and revising, I’m beyond grateful to The Schola for their support in publishing my research findings. I have always been fascinated by the realm of legal thinking, and I engage in mock Supreme Court competitions and youth legislatures during my leisure time. In college, I hope to delve into political theory and intern with a local politician. Ultimately, I aspire to attend law school and pursue a career in white-collar prosecution, which has always been my dream. Apart from the academic world, my interests include track running, weightlifting, volunteering in Chicago, and spending time with friends.
